Soft Life Isn’t Something a Man Gives You
Somewhere along the way, society convinced women that a “soft life” comes with the right relationship.
Find the right man.
Marry well.
Get spoiled.
Be taken care of.
Then—and only then—you can finally exhale.
I don’t buy it.
Because if your peace depends on another person, it isn’t peace. It’s permission.
And I’m no longer asking anyone for permission to live well.
For a long time, I thought softness looked like vacations, flowers, luxury bags, and someone opening every door for me. While all of those things are beautiful, I’ve realized they are the benefits of a soft life—not the foundation of one.
The foundation is how you treat yourself when nobody is watching.
A soft life starts the moment you stop abandoning yourself.
It starts when you stop saying yes out of guilt.
When you stop proving your worth through exhaustion.
When you stop wearing burnout like it’s a badge of honor. And Lord knows I have !
Because let’s be honest…
Some of us have mastered surviving.
We know how to push through.
We know how to carry everyone else’s burdens.
We know how to smile while we’re silently falling apart.
And I’m a hold your hand while I say this buttercup….. surviving isn’t living.
And somewhere between healing, therapy, prayer, grief, disappointment, rebuilding businesses, chasing purpose, and learning who I am outside of what I’ve survived…
I realized I deserved softness from me first.
My version of a soft life doesn’t require someone else’s credit card.
It looks like waking up without chaos.
Protecting my peace without apologizing.
Buying myself the flowers.
Taking the trip.
Going to therapy.
Reading the book.
Putting my phone on Do Not Disturb. ( which I’ve never done until late)
Saying “no” without explaining.
Choosing joy without feeling guilty.
That’s luxury to me.
People hear “soft life” and assume it means doing less.
I think it means carrying less.
Here’s what I’ve learned…
The woman ( or man ) you’re becoming doesn’t need rescuing.
She needs rest.
She needs healing.
She needs consistency.
She needs to remember that choosing herself isn’t selfish—it’s stewardship. Cmon somebody !! 🗣️🗣️
One day, if God chooses to bring someone into my life, I pray he adds to the peace I’ve already built.
But he won’t be responsible for creating it.
That’s my job.
Because a soft life isn’t a destination someone escorts you into.
It’s a home you build within yourself.
And once you’ve built it…
You’ll never again settle for anything that disturbs your peace.
